Who Is Mary Louise? The Story Behind Tempo Hotel Nashville's Music Icon
Jump to a Section:
Mary Louise is a fictional Nashville musician created as the storytelling centerpiece for Tempo Hotel by Hilton in downtown Nashville.
If you found her name in the hotel and wondered if she was real, you're not alone. That was the whole point.
Is Mary Louise a Real Person or a Fictional Character?
Mary Louise is not a real musician. She is a fictional character developed specifically for the Tempo Hotel by Hilton Nashville brand campaign, designed to feel so authentic that guests would search for her.
The Mary Louise campaign is a narrative-driven commercial photography series created for The Tempo Hotel by Hilton in downtown Nashville, photographed by Nashville commercial photographer Tausha Dickinson. Embarking on this project was seriously a dream come true… and an adventure into uncharted creative territory. Unlike anything I had undertaken before, this project was not just about capturing images; it was about crafting an immersive narrative that would leave guests questioning the line between fiction and reality of Musician Mary Louise.
An Enigmatic Figure Brought to Life
Mary Louise was designed to blur the line between fiction and reality. The goal was simple: make hotel guests believe she was a real Nashville music icon whose career had unfolded across the city for decades. Every image, every prop, every location was chosen to support that story. Guests were meant to leave the hotel curious, search her name, and find a character so fully realized that the discovery itself became part of the experience.
Crafting a Legacy in Two Days with 15 Images
We had two days to photograph an entire fictional lifetime. Fourteen final images plus one album cover, shot across four Nashville locations, each representing a different chapter of Mary Louise's story from her early days playing small stages to her moment in the spotlight.
Adding to our narrative backdrop was THE CASTLE RECORDING STUDIO in Franklin, Tennessee, a legendary location that anchored Mary Louise's story in real Nashville music history. Alongside Jaan's House, The Paper House, and Nashville Palace, each Middle Tennessee location wove its own thread into her world.
The Maestros Behind the Magic
A campaign this ambitious required an exceptional creative team. Here is everyone who brought Mary Louise to life for the Tempo Hotel Nashville project.
Kirsten Vaselaarfrom HRI Properties - This entire story was her brain child and I am forever grateful she chose me to capture it.
Anthony Romano, The Producer, orchestrated our ambitious project with perfection. He also did all of the design for the Album!!!!
Emily Goodin, the Wardrobe Stylist, along with her assistant Ashtyn Rae dressed our narrative in authenticity.
Haley Beckham, our Set Stylist, transformed each location into a portal to Mary Louise's world.
Faith and Delaney added strokes of beauty with their hair and makeup artistry, and Joey Ramirez painted our stage scenes with light.
Haley Robbins, the Mary Louise herself, embraced this persona PERFECTLY.
Kennedy, Brooklen, and Nate stepped into their supporting roles with a passion that brought Mary Louise's story to life.
Jaime Bayer ensured not a moment was missed as our DigiTech, with Logan supporting every shot as my invaluable Photography Assistant.
Our journey was also enriched by the contributions from Art Dog Props, The Picture Car Company, Southern Trophy, and The Hip Zipper, each playing a pivotal role in adding layers of depth and realism to our visual narrative.
To my crew and every hand that contributed to this monumental endeavor: my gratitude knows no bounds. Here's to the stories we told and the memories we made.

The light catches them just so, casting long shadows that dance on the tapestry beneath. Together, every strum and smile spins a narrative of togetherness, their collective love for music shining through, transcending mere images and filling the air with endless creativity.
